MINI Cooper Tire Pressure Light

The tire pressure light is a warning from your vehicle’s tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and it will typically illuminate when your tires are low on air. The light resembles a flat-bottomed tire with an exclamation point in the middle. If your TPMS light comes on, fill the tires with the suggested MINI Cooper tire pressure, which is usually around 35 psi; check your owner’s manual to confirm this. Low tire pressure can have any number of causes, including:

  • A flat tire
  • A puncture
  • A slow leak
  • Hot or cold weather extremes

In some cases, the TPMS light comes on if one of the system’s sensors is malfunctioning. If the light stays on even after filling the tires with air, schedule service at our DC Metro Area tire center for additional assistance.

MINI Cooper Tire Pressure Guide

Maintaining adequate air pressure is a critical component of good tire care. Not only does it help ensure maximum performance and safety on Loudoun County and Dulles Airport-area roads, but it also extends the life of your tires and the investment you’ve made in them. What should a MINI Cooper’s tire pressure be, and how do you check it most effectively? MINI of Sterling gives you the answers in the following guide to MINI Cooper tire pressure.

What Should a MINI Cooper’s Tire Pressure Be?

So, what should a MINI Cooper’s tire pressure be for optimal performance and safety? The generally recommended MINI Cooper tire pressure is 35 psi. With that said, consult your owner’s manual to confirm this, as different models and model years may have slightly different PSI requirements.

How Do I Check My MINI Cooper Tire Pressure?

Fortunately, checking your MINI Cooper tire pressure is typically quite easy. All you’ll need is a tire pressure gauge, which you can purchase at any discount retailer or auto supply store. Here’s how to check the pressure in your MINI Cooper tires:

  1. Unscrew the cap from your tire’s valve stem.
  2. Secure the tire gauge over the open stem, completely covering it so no air gets out, until the gauge provides a reading. The current PSI will either be displayed digitally on the gauge or on a bar that extends from the gauge itself, depending on the type you have.
  3. Remove the gauge, and replace the cap on the valve stem.

How Do I Reset My MINI Cooper TPMS?

All new MINI vehicles, including the MINI Cooper, come with a state-of-the-art Tire Pressure Monitoring System. This system uses a network of tire sensors to monitor pressure and send dashboard alerts when pressure levels are too high or too low. Once you’ve filled your tires to the recommended PSI, you may have to reset the TPMS dashboard light by doing the following:

  1. Start the engine and depress the button on the end of the turn signal lever until you see the words “SET/INFO” on the dashboard message center, located next to the odometer.
  2. Press and hold the button until the message changes, and start pushing the button to scroll through the displayed messages until you see the tire monitor symbol and reset feature.
  3. Press and hold the button again and wait until the display changes.

Your MINI Cooper can now recalibrate the TPMS system on your next drive. Bear in mind that it may take several minutes of driving for the system to reset.
